Stansted Airport

15 August 2017

joint sealing works

Jointline's airfield maintenance division (Red Rose Pavements) have been hard at work at Stansted Airport this week on the new taxiway extension.  Using machine grade Thioflex 555 sealant, the operatives have primed and sealed over 4500m of new joints.  After saw cutting operations, the sealant is machine mixed in our bespoke vehicles and pumped through the delivery pipe to the extruder lance.  During summer months, this material is serviceable again to traffic after only an hour.

The crews will be back in September to make good the markings where the old and new taxiways meet.

To see if we can help you with your saw cutting and joint sealing requirements, please contact Graham Dixon on 01522 868636 or graham.dixon@jointline-group.co.uk for a free quotation and no obligation advice.

Good Luck Jeremy!

07 August 2017

We will miss you....

At the end of July, we raised a glass and wished Jeremy Patterson a long and happy retirement after nearly 20 years as our financial Director.  Jeremy's unflappable demeanour will be sorely missed.  As a keen cyclist, Jeremy was delighted with his leaving gift of a VIP experience watching the riders roll in to Paris on the last stage of the Tour de France.  We all wish Jeremy a long, well deserved and extremely happy retirement.

Our new road stud installation vehicle

27 June 2017

is a little bit special!

We are delighted to have taken delivery of our third road stud installation vehicle complete with a number of added extras!  Our new machine houses 3 boilers on the rear of the vehicle allowing one crew to work with pitch, yellow thermoplastic and white thermoplastic. This allows our multi-skilled crews to complete works containing both road stud and thermoplastic requirements without the need for additional resource.  These fuel, labour, cost and environmental savings are passed on directly to our customers. Additionally, this vehicle contains an innovative feature allowing cats eyes to be installed through a moving transverse head.  This means that we are able to install studs without the need for driving on newly laid, soft asphalt and is currently one of only three machines in the country to allow this.  Capable of installing over 400 embedded studs in every shift, our latest delivery has put a smile on the face of Garry Thomas, our Northern Transport Manager!  It's THAT good!

If you think that your site could benefit from this latest line marking/road stud installation technology, please call Mark Garrad on 01274 736504 for a free quotation.

Driving health and safety improvements

27 June 2017

with new vehicle mounted safety lasers

Jointline are rolling out the installation of new safety lasers in order to improve on-site safety.  Red lasers are initially being hard wired into our multi mark fleet and will be rolled out to our stud vehicles before being fitted to the rest of our machines.  Bright red lasers create a safety control zone of 2 meters at the side and 5 metres at the rear of our vehicle to warn people that they are in a potentially unsafe position if they enter this zone.  The mobile safety zone travels with the vehicle.  Should you require more information regarding this safety innovation, please telephone Garry Thomas, our Northern Transport Manager, on 01274 736504.

09 June 2017

to take children on a pilgrimage to Lourdes!

A group of Jointline staff from head office recently enjoyed an evening at a "Sportsman's dinner" at the Bentley Hotel designed to raise money to take disabled and disadvantaged children on a pilgrimage holiday.  The charity helps 1000 children every year and is reliant on fundraising activities such as this to enable them to provide the care and support that the children need.  The evening was a great success and a total of £3,800 was raised on the night.

Ferrybridge to Barnsdale Bar

06 May 2017

One of Highways England's top ten renewal schemes in England!

Four of Jointline's surface treatment crews recently rose to the challenge of laying 1767m2 of High Friction Surfacing in record time in order to hit the programme deadline.  Working in rotation, with an ancillary team and mobile fitter in support, they managed to lay: 3171m of intermittent line, 14,125m of rib line, 1655 embedded road studs & 5576m2 of Type 1 High Friction Surfacing in record time.  They pulled out all the stops to ensure that the 8.4km of dual carriageway was handed over on time despite earlier delays from other trades on site meaning that our shift time had been dramatically reduced.  Great work by the whole team.  Thank you for your sterling efforts.

Designed by our Northern Division Transport Manager, Garry Thomas, this latest piece of kit will help us to ensure that we maintain our reputation for excellent on-time service delivery.

Spring is in the air

13 April 2017

so it's a great time to refresh your car park markings!

With the warmer weather and drier ground conditions now here, it is a great time to re-mark your car park lines and bays to keep your customers safe.  Jointline have been busy for Tesco this week refresing the disabled bays for their Haslingden store in a smart, blue Colour Plus material.  If you would like to take advantage of a free quotation for the line marking of your car park, please contact Mark Barker on 01522 868636.

Why have double yellow lines

11 April 2017

when you can have ducks??!

Jointline have recently helped the organisers of the Tour de Yorkshire make a splash in the town of Addingham by marking a string of theromplastic ducks through the main street. The town of Addingham is renowned for ducks waddling along the street and so Jointline were called in to help lay some unusual street markings in readiness for the cycle race which will pass directly through the town.  Keen not to 'ruffle the feathers' of any local residents, our highly skilled operatives set to work early on Sunday morning & the whole operation went 'swimmingly.'  And with our keen pricing structure, the client will be left with a very competitive 'bill'.  All other duck related jokes gratefully received!

Gatwick Airport

06 April 2017

...but there will be no "lift off" of our markings!

Lining works are now complete at the new Multi Storey Car park at Gatwick Airport.  The team of Mark Barker, Colin Dunham, Neil Oxby, John North, Scott Dunham, Gavin Chapman and Paul Speck have been working in partnership with numerous other trades on the shared site and have adhered to stringent specifications to ensure that works were delivered right first time and exactly to client requirements.  No snags at all were identified upon completion - a job well done!

Areas 13 & 14

17 February 2017

preparations in full swing......

Mobilisation processes are now well under way in readiness for the start of works in Areas 13 & 14 for Highways England.  As well as being preferred bidders for Area 7, Jointline have also been appointed as one of the preferred suppliers on two other Construction Works Frameworks and are looking forward to delivering a quality service over the course of the 4 year contract.

The Area 13 network covers 237 miles of network made up of 111 miles of motorway and a further 126 miles of trunk road.  Covering Cumbria and North Lancashire, works will be required on the M6, M55, A66 and A595 to mention but a few.

The Area 14 network stretches through North Yorkshire, Tyne & Wear, Durham and Northumberland.  The Area consists of 52 miles of motorway as well as 188 miles of all purpose trunk roads.

Gareth Preston, the Director who will oversee the operational side of this contract has said, "We are delighted to be consolidating our working relationship with Highways England.  Our recent multi million pound investment strategy in new plant and skills training will ensure that our service on these prestigious roads is second to none."

Tadcaster Bridge

17 February 2017

Opening celebrations

It's not often that line marking operatives get treated like rock stars, but Jointline's Jonny Warriss, David Davey and Hanan Ullah were part of a team that were cheered by huge crowds as works were finally completed on the re-built Tadcaster bridge.

Hundreds of school children joined residents as well as local MP Nigel Adams and local government Secretary, Sajid Javid, for a procession across the bridge over the River Wharfe earlier this month.  The bridge had partially collapsed due to severe flooding and Mr. Adams praised the council and contractors who worked on the re-building of the bridge.

Our next set of apprentices?

17 February 2017

It's never too early to see the benefits of a career in construction!!

Jointline were helping to keep children at a school in Goole safe last month by laying markings to ensure that parents and children kept to the footpath.  The children enjoyed seeing the application of thermoplastic safety markings first hand and cast a critical eye over the works of Stephen Clegg and Dean McGuinness who joined Tarmac operatives in a joint venture for Howden Church of England Infant School.

Seconds out......

14 March 2016

Round 1....

On Thursday 03 March 2016 Jointline's Stuart Theabould and Sean Cook, plus their selected guests, joined almost 300 people who attended SPARKS glittering 20th Annual Golf Dinner. The event, which was hosted by Sky Sports Vicky Gomersall and Talk Sports Mark Saggers, was held at the 5* London Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel. SPARKS, who raise money to fund pioneering children’s medical research, were also celebrating 25 years of being a charity. “Absolutely fantastic” Stuart said of the fund raising evening. “The last time we looked, the money raised on the night through auctions and raffles was approaching £90,000.00. Everyone has dug deep to support such a worthy cause”. “This is the first time I have been to the event and it has really opened my eyes,” exclaimed Sean. “When you hear stories of poorly children and what they have to go through, it is pretty heart rending. SPARKS do an unbelievable job in raising money to assist in the funding of medical research.”

Jointline were given a round of applause when it was announced that they were the only company to have supported SPARKS since 1996 when charity dinners began. The special guest who joined in the fun as table celebrity was Liverpool’s ex-world light-heavyweight boxing champion, John Conteh.

A fond farewell

07 March 2016

to Paul Lovett - Airfields Director

On Friday 26 February 2016, Contracts Director Paul Lovett, finally called “time” on his long service with Jointline and retired gracefully. Paul, who also celebrated his 65th birthday on 11 February 2016, joined the company on 05 May 1992 therefore spending almost 24 years with the business. “It has been one long up and down rollercoaster ride” said Paul as he sipped a glass of champagne at the 5 Bells Hotel, a short distance from the Jointline Head Office in Lincoln. “I am glad to say there were more ups than downs so at least I can go out on a high being pretty satisfied with what I have achieved over the past 24 years. It is now time to relax and concentrate on fishing and shooting”. Paul was heavily involved in the airfield side of the business running term contracts at Heathrow, Gatwick, Southampton, Birmingham and East Midlands to name but a few. In addition to UK civilian and military airfields, Paul was also operational in several overseas projects at airports in Hong Kong, Barbados, Cyprus, Poland, Bangkok and the Falkland Islands. His “swansong” was the completion of works at Gibraltar Airport in January this year. On 01 March 2016 Paul and selected guests attended what would be his last Airport Operators Association (AOA) dinner held at Grosvenor House, London.  Paul will be succeeded by Sean Cook, who many of you may already know.  Paul is a very hard act to follow, but we are sure that there will be a seamless transition and that Sean is an extremely safe pair of hands.  Good luck Paul.  We will all miss you.

Mark Garrad is an athlete??!!

15 January 2016

Are you SURE?????!!!

Those of you that know our Commercial Manager, Mark Garrad, may be a little surprised to learn that he has become an athlete. His mind set and physique are perfectly suited to this new pursuit and he is taking it VERY seriously!! He is of course, the best kind of athlete - a "Dryathlete." To everyone's utter amazement and disbelief, Mark has taken it upon himself to go "dry" for January and raise money for Cancer Research during the torturous process. It is a charity that he feels strongly about having lost family members to the disease. Speaking earlier, (rather unusually without slurring his words), Mark said, " so far so good - but stopping myself drinking on New Year's Eve at 23.59 was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Telling a drunken 'you' that you can't drink any more was difficult, but I did it and am looking forward to January 31st!" So please do support Mark in his bid to raise £750 for Cancer research. His Just Giving page can be found at:

https://www.justgiving.com/Mark-Garrad-dryathlete2016/

So if you speak to Mark in January - please be kind to him.....he's suffering!!

On the A64 & the M1

Commercial Manager, Mr. Mark Garrad, has detailed how Jointline have received orders from both Hanson Contracting and Aggregate Industries on the Area 12 network.  These works are a big plus for Jointline as it helps to justify our ongoing capital expenditure program in new plant and equipment.  This continual investment enhances our position as a major presence in the road marking sector.  Motorways and trunk road orders now make up a larger percentage of our works than even local authority works and we are looking forward to making a start on Area 12 shortly.

Good luck Andrew!

27 August 2014

Best wishes for a very happy retirement.

On 30th June, Andrew Gregory, the group Finance Director finally called it a day, put away his cheque book and pen and retired.  Andrew, who started work with the company on 6th April 1993 had been a loyal servant to the business for over 21 years and certainly knew how to "handle-the-cash."  His dry sense of humour and professional charm will be sadly missed.  However, as the saying goes, "the show must go on!"  We all wish Andrew a long and happy retirement and thank him for all the hard work he has put in over the years.  It has been very much appreciated.

2014 shows no sign of slowing down

27 August 2014

but we're ready for the challenge!

Jointline have recently secured three major contracts in the North and North East of England from Lafarge Tarmac.  The first one, which commences mid September, is the A1 East Ord to Scremerston.  This will be followed by the A1(M) Southbound Carriageway: Washington to Blind Lane and the ASF Package 1: A66 Preston Farm to Elton.  Commercial Manager, Mark Garrad said, "This is fantastic news for the business.  Our overall relationship with Lafarge Tarmac is already strong.  The securing of these works for the Birtley office continues on from the contracts we carried out in the earlier part of the year.  There is a lot of trust and confidence between Main Contractor and Sub-Contractor which can only be good for the schemes in general. A great way to start the Autumn."

A very warm welcome to Martin Hill....

27 August 2014

our new Norfolk Operations Manager

In June 2014, ex-Skanska Senior Quantity Surveyor, Martin Hill, fought off fierce competition to be appointed the "hot seat" of Operations Manager on the Norfolk Term Services Contract.  Martin, who has an HNC in Construction and an ONC in Civil Engineering, was well known to Jointline from his days working with Aggregate Industries, Morrison Highways & Ringway.  Managing Director, Mr. Stuart Theabould has confirmed how having Martin on board is a real coup for the company.  His commercial and contracting background will stand Martin in good stead for the task of running such a large and complex contract. "Joining a long established and well respected company like Jointline was appealing to me." states Martin, who is relishing being involved in such a long term contract with a chance to develop the business.  Martin can be contacted on 07710 305761.
